I’d be curious to know if this is making any difference in their schools. How are their test scores? Is there any survey data showing how families feel about their schools there?
If Ohio is actually getting an environment in its classrooms that is more conducive to learning, this should be considered. It makes a real difference for everyone involved in the schools, including the majority of Black students who aren’t getting suspended, and even those who are.
And if Ohio’s results are no better than the other states? That would be a big point in favor of eliminating these suspensions that ought to be included.
