My teacher recognized the Eurocentric nature of the new course and continued to teach the entirety of human history. I appreciated this broader view of the curriculum. In addition to embracing diversity and teaching students of other cultures, the pre-1200 history is essential for contextualizing modern history. I hope the college board corrects their decision in order to lean away from the Eurocentrism that prevails in many of their courses.

It was also disjointed and didn’t really address my mostly Dominican students. They could not connect with it due to the Eurocentric nature.

I teach the course, and the course covers the totality of world history. Europe is just a sliver of the curriculum. Much tine is spent teaching non-European regions of the world. For example, China and the Abbasid Caliphate cone to mind. So too Mail and the civilizations of Wear Africa. And because the course starts in 1250, we spend time putting these great civilizations in historical context. Finally, the APWH curriculum is written to be non-Eurocentric. I suggest Ms. Cluroe read the APWH framework written by the College Board to get an idea of what teachers are supposed to be teaching. It is unfortunate she feels this way.
